Sustainability Manager

In connection with the many projects and developments, we are looking for a: Sustainability Manager to strengthen our organization

The organization

SanoRice is the largest private label producer of puffed rice, corn and multigrain waffles in the world. A wide variety of high-quality rice products are produced in the modern factory in Veenendaal. Other raw materials such as corn, buckwheat, lentils and quinoa are also processed into various cakes. Together with our customers, we develop unique combinations using different raw materials, coatings and flavors. Approximately 80% of the waffles produced by SanoRice are exported (under private label) via retailers, A-brands and distributors to consumers in more than 40 countries worldwide.

SanoRice is a proud Dutch family business with a rich history and a bright future. SanoRice was founded in 1987 and we now have branches in the Netherlands, Italy, Belgium and since 2023 in Poland. With these 4 locations we make more than 15 million puffed waffles per day. The offices of SanoRice Netherlands and SanoRice Holding are located in Veenendaal.

The department

The Sustainability department consists of a Manager and a Sustainability Officer and together they ensure that awareness of this subject continues to grow within the organization. The department also ensures that they are aware of the latest developments and that SanoRice complies with all laws and regulations regarding this subject. From this department you often interact with various other internal departments and production. In addition, you have contact with your colleagues in Belgium, Italy and Poland and, together with your colleague, you are the first point of contact for customers, suppliers and other external (profit and non-profit) organizations regarding sustainability. In this position you report to the Group Manager Innovation & Development.

Your challenge

As Sustainability Manager you are responsible for overseeing and implementing our CSR and sustainability strategy. You play a crucial role in integrating sustainability within all layers of the organization. As an enthusiastic driving force, you are someone who believes in the necessity and added value of this subject and brings this into the organization in an accessible way.

No day is the same in this role, because the following points are also part of your responsibilities:

  • Developing and promoting a sustainability vision and strategy that aligns with our business goals;
  • Identify and propose sustainability initiatives with positive social and environmental impact;
  • Supporting and motivating various departments in the implementation of sustainability programs;
  • Informing relevant legal requirements and market expectations and ensuring compliance;
  • Managing sustainability projects, plans and budgets, including setting sustainability goals and priorities;
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders about progress and results of sustainability initiatives;
  • Keeping up with developments in legislation and trends in the field of sustainability.

Requirements and competencies

To be able to carry out your work properly, it is nice if you have some experience as a professional. In addition, a number of skills and certain competencies are useful to be able to make a significant contribution.

  • You have a university working and thinking level, for example through a completed course in Food Technology, Food & Technology or similar;
  • You bring 5 years of relevant work experience from a similar role;
  • You have demonstrable experience in developing and implementing sustainability strategies;
  • You have knowledge of relevant legislation and certifications, such as EcoVadis and Climate Neutral;
  • You are available for at least 32 hours a week;
  • You communicate decisively at various levels, both internally (office and factory) and externally (customers, suppliers, government and other agencies);
  • You work independently and can organize and keep an overview;
  • You feel at home in a dynamic and international environment at a company that is in a growth phase;
  • You have excellent communication skills, both in Dutch and English (German is an advantage);
  • You are willing to travel (abroad) for work;
  • You are skilled with Microsoft Office and ERP systems;
  • Personal characteristics: analytically strong, accurate, convincing, energetic, strong communicator, bridge builder and team player.

  • A varied job at the European market leader of private label produced rice, corn and multigrain waffles;
  • A gross monthly salary based on 40 hours is around € 6,000. The salary is tailored to your experience;
  • Hybrid working is partly possible, provided your work permits it;
  • 25 vacation days and 8% holiday pay;
  • Possibility to purchase a maximum of 5 additional vacation days per calendar year;
  • Pension scheme where 2/3rds are reimbursed by the employer;
  • Participation in our active staff association and our bicycle plan;
